A professor of pharmacology in London University in his younger days, Donald Straughan later worked for a pharma company and for the civil service. After retiring, he moved to Bath nearly 25 years ago where he pioneered the Georgian Newspaper Project – working with a team of volunteers on reading and making detailed abstracts of old issues of the Bath Chronicle for a database. He has also transcribed various old rate books and legal documents of the period.
